Elemica and Sales Executive Steve Wallace Support JDRF Ride to Cure
Fundraiser Supports Research for Cure of Type One Diabetes
Wayne, PA– September 18, 2019 – Elemica, the leading Digital Supply Network for process manufacturing industries, announces that Steve Wallace represented Elemica at the JDRF Ride to Cure in Saratoga Springs, NY last weekend. Steve is a member of the Logistics Leaders for T1D Cure Team, a cycling team started by Adrian Gonzalez, President of Adelante SCM, a supply chain research and networking organization, whose daughter was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes (T1D) in 2011 at age 11. The team raises money to support’s JDRF’s mission of “accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.”
“I completed my JDRF Ride to Cure 100-mile ride in Saratoga Springs on Saturday. I actually got some bonus miles in this year (more like bonehead miles) because I missed a turn at mile 94 and got lost, which added another 7 miles (mostly uphill – of course!) to the ride,” says Steve Wallace, Inside Sales Executive, North America, Elemica. “On top of this was bad weather, but it is so worth it, including all the training miles, when you receive the unconditional thanks from all the kids. Seeing the poster with my name on it made by a kid named Sam and his brother displayed at the celebration dinner made every mile a heartfelt pleasure.”
JDRF is the leading non-profit organization focused on T1D research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults—and has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. With T1D, a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. The daily life of someone with T1D brings a multitude of challenges, including insulin injections that need to be carefully balanced with eating and activity, disruptive glucose monitoring, sleepless nights—and wishing for a tomorrow where this struggle doesn’t exist.
JDRF facilitates all types of fundraisers, including walks and bike rides. There are various ride and walk dates and locations throughout the year. The ride in Saratoga Springs raised $1.5M. The Logistics Leaders team, which has members participating in next month’s Death Valley, CA ride, has raised over $55,000 so far this year, and has collectively raised over $200,000 since 2016. “Thank you all for supporting me and this worthy cause, and for helping to make a difference for people like Sam (See the poster in below picture). Together we will turn Type One into Type None,” adds Wallace.
